Our Story
It all started a long time ago, back in 1950’s when a grocery / deli / dairy store was opened under the name Ziggy’s Harbor Dairy. A decade later the name was changed to Harbor Deli, and this was the name that it kept when one crispy morning day in 1997 a young man by the name of Harry DeFeo and his lovely wife Diane and children purchased it and decided to make it a place where all the families from the neighborhood would be able to meet and talk and laugh and enjoy the best sandwiches New York had ever seen.
Highschool sweethearts and local kids from Port Washington, New York, Harry and Diane graduated from Schreiber High School in 1975. They’ve been living their whole life in Port Washington and are proud to be part of this wonderful community. Harbor Deli is their way of giving back to the town that has always been close to their heart. In 2012, when Hurricane Sandy hit, Harry had no doubt in his mind that he needed to give his contribution so he hired a generator to be able to sustain the store in order to provide his friends and neighbors with fresh food and drinks.
Harry and Diane have always been giving back to the community. Not ones to be lured by a big city’s lights, they decided that their life was in Port Washington. So in May of 2019, they opened Harbor Deli Two. Just three years later, in 2022, Harbor Deli Three was opened in Woodbury, NY.

It’s not even that all salads, chicken cutlets, and grilled chicken are made here fresh daily
Nor is it that we use real jumbo eggs for regular and egg white sandwiches and we never pour our eggs or egg whites from a carton.
